Unit History & Context: Charlie Company of the 2nd Battalion, 229th Aviation Regiment — the "Spartans" — deployed to Iraq for Operation New Dawn, the transition phase of U.S. operations in Iraq following the formal end of Operation Iraqi Freedom in September 2010. The 2-229 AVN is an Apache attack battalion, and C Co's Spartan iconography reflects the warrior-culture aesthetic common to Apache communities.
